Hello all,
One of our adopters is dealing with a 2nd bout of cancer, and is returning a mini gelding they adopted from us.  Additionally, they have a 9 year old paint gelding, 15H, bay and white.  He is broke to ride, but due to medical issues of the adopter (not the horse) he has not been ridden the last year.
If anyone is interested in either horse, please contact us.
Thanks!

Thoroughbred Mare Available

Fri Jul 18, 2008 4:17 pm (PDT)

We were talking with a local farm in Orange County, and they have a 14 year old dark bay thoroughbred mare.? 16.2H. She was on the track, and she is retired from breeding because of complications.? They think in the hands of someone experienced she could be a nice riding horse, or taken as a companion.
If interested, please give us a call, they would like the mare to go through the rescue, so she's protected.

LAZY HORSE RANCH

www.LazyHorseRescue.org

We are devastated to announce: The time has come to close our doors !

The losses and debts of 4.5+ years of rescue have finally caught up with us, and worsened by severe weather and the horrible economy, we have no choice but to quit our private little rescue.....

Very few people know this, but "Lazy Horse Rescue" is a two-person operation - mainly just me, with the occasional help of my husband if the tractor or the barn needs repair, or if the horses are out of water.......

Other than that, from finding, rescuing, caring for and adopting out the horses, it's just me, no volunteers or other help whatsoever (besides some great foster-homes of course). And all that while I'm working a full-time job, working in and around the house, caring for 4 big dogs, etc., etc., etc.

Adoptions, sponsorships & donations have been slower than ever before, and the financial losses, plus the ever-growing day-to-day pressure and worries are now really taking its toll on us.....

And even though we are both working full-time, all the expenses, debts and losses of over 4.5 years of horse rescue, are just becoming unbearable...

We will most-certainly remain committed to ALL horses adopted from here. We will stay in touch with all adopters, will do check-ups via e-mail or in person when necessary, and will also take back and re-adopt any horse that their adopter can no longer keep. We will also try to keep rescuing and placing the occasional horse in an emergency situation - as long as it is do-able and affordable. So please keep checking our website from time to time, and keep an eye out for a newsletter here or there. But LAZY HORSE RESCUE as you know it won't be any longer....

We need every help we can possibly get, to place these last 15+ horses. Due to reasons that I just tried to explain, we can't really afford to drastically lower any adoption fees, but for one last time we can offer a "payment plan" (SPONSOR-TO-ADOPT program), at least for the horses located in SD and at foster-homes that can keep the horses until the adoption fees are paid in full. And all horses located in SD, we can also board here until fall in case you want to adopt but aren't ready yet to bring your horse home yet. We can also offer TRIAL ADOPTIONS, which means you could adopt a horse, bring him/her home, and then have a certain time-frame to decide if you want to adopt the horse for good or not. If not, you would receive a full refund, but would lose the transportation fees and agree to foster the horse until re-adopted. And last but not least, in case transportation is the big issue, we could try to help out with transportation ourselves, but only within a limited area.

Almost ALL horses have to go, including horses in rehab, horses that are not on the website (please ask for details) and some of our permanent residents. However, even thought we are under a lot of pressure, we will NOT compromise on any of the adoption- and screening procedures, and we will still try to the find the BEST home for each horse.

Here are brand-new photos and videos of all horses located in SD (some listed on the webiste, some not) - the photos were taken today, with 50+ mph winds.....

PHOTOS 7-11-2008

VIDEOS 7-11-2008

And for one last time - any donations towards a horse's care, adoption fee or transport would be GREATLY appreciated, and would help out tremendously with placing these last 15+ horses..... PLEASE HELP !

hi everyone,

The calls just keep coming in--here are several more we have looking for homes and we are full up.   Permission to crosspost--intersted parties can email us at cripleridge@wnyip.net (cripleridge @ wnyip.net)  All horses are free to good homes, however homes will be fully checked out.

in Skaneateles, NY (30 mins from Syracuse) several TB's:

1. Super Circle:  5 yr old bay TB gelding--super nice, unraced, green broke at best.  Went for training but they didn't feel he was a good prospect.  We're told by owners he is a willing guy with a big heart so would make a nice pleasure prospect

2. Regalev--6 yr old approx. 16H chestnut gelding with white blaze.  Was on track recently--just doesn't want to run anymore.  Needs a bit of weight

3. Quick Approach-4 yr old light bay gelding--green broke, unraced.  Likes to unlatch his stall doors!

4. Extra Extra--4 yr old bay tb gelding, bump on LH--not lame--has not cause any problems but unsure of what it is, unraced, green broke, very curious guy.

5.  Miss Circle--8 yr old bady mare with white stripe--was raced-pleasure prospect.

6.  Good ol Bunny--9 year old bay mare, was raced, pleasure prospect.

I currently do not have pics of these horses but am trying to get some asap.  This is all the information i currently have as well--if you have a specific question on one of them--I will do my best to find out the answer for you.  The family is looking to place them in good homes so all homes will be checked out.

Located in Florida, near Ocala;    "Olive"  16 yr old TB mare--former racer as well.  She has been trail ridden extensively, show locally in Fl. in dressage, but has not done much in last 5 years so would need to be brought back to work.  We're told she's nice to handle but does require an experienced rider.  She does have anhydrosis so needs to move to a cooler climate.  healthy and sound--no vices--pics available

Located in SE PA--Munchkin--6 yr old (possibly welsh) pony mare--VERY sweet and people orientated--easy to handle, good ground manners, sound and healthy.  She is looking for her forever home to give her some training and a new chance at life.

Thank you,

Amy Stockman

HI Guys...
OK so, this week has been incredibly hard.. and I'm writing this as I'm about to go to a funeral.. I need to place these horses asap...
My mother has become very sick and Ive had to move home , along with the horses- they don't have stalls- just a run in and hate it.. they pace allll day long... I'm so sorry for them but were out of room! These are truly GREAT horses and I hate to say this... but there free to a good home... Except for the chestnut TB Shes $500-

Thank you all..

Appy available

Appy gelding available and must be moved soon.
He is about 13 hands mostly black with a slight blanket on his rump.
Sound ,healthy and a nice ride but with lots of get up and go. He is blind in his right eye but does not get in his way at all. He is also best kept with geldings as he likes the girls just too much! Easy keeper ,trailers great doesn't appear spooky at all, easy to catch.
He needs someplace with board or more secure fence that high tensil or wire electric. He is tearing up my fences daily and mostly I have electric. I cannot take mending fences every day!
We paid 200 to keep him off a kill truck 2 months ago. Best offer & approved adoption contract will get him. I can't risk my horses getting out as I live on a very busy road.
my cell is 717 226-4847(make sure you leave message if I don't answer)
He is located in Fairfield PA - Adams county PA

MICHIGAN - RESCUED HORSES SEEKING FOREVER HOMES

These horses were rescued on Good Friday from the direct to slaughter pen at Shipshewana, Indiana.... They are located near Lansing, Michigan, and are available for adoption - The older pair of horses have not been evaluated as far as their riding knowledge as of yet, so we are not sure if they are trained or not. If you are interested, please contact me offlist, as I am on digest, and may not see your post..... Please be prepared to offer references, and information regarding how you intend to care for them. An adoption contract is required, and it has a no breeding clause. Thank you.....

Just got an email from Candy..... She still has three from the save that need to find good, forever homes...... If anyone knows of a good home for these horses, please contact me...... Here they are, and their info:

Denny - was with the wild bunch, but not from the same owner.... he was halter broke, and is a genuine pocket pony.... to the point that I could not work with the other three, as he was following me constantly, wanting attention. Candy came and got him to free me up so I could work with the others in order to get them gentled so they could find homes..... Vet's estimate is that he is 9 months old. She has had him gelded, he is good for the farrier, and would LOVE a home who would make him their forever horse.....

Next is Pablo and Isabella.... We were told that they were Arab/Andalusian crosses - They are breathtakingly beautiful, but are not extremely tall horses.... (about 14.2) Here is Candy's assessment of them so far........

Pablo is 7 yrs old - getting over his head shy - but still doesn't trust people who are strangers.

Isabella is 5 yrs old - very gentle and likes attention

Does anyone have contacts or interst in adopting any of the following (this is a little outside my normal rescue efforts - and I
have no contacts):
1) Male Brazilian Burro - 7yo
2) Female ZeDonk 4-5yo
3) Baby #1 from above pair - Male 2yo
4) Baby #2 from above pair - Male born 11/2007
They are located in Southwest Florida. This is not an emergency but they do not have the ability to help with transport (no trailer
as these were delivered to them). Please feel free to forward to appropriate parties. Any placement will still require references
(vet / farrier) and a site visit. Kindest regards, Deanna Deppen, Shy Wolf Sanctuary, shywolf@embarqmail.com (shywolf @ embarqmial.com)

HELPING HEARTS EQUINE RESCUE

hheartsequine@optonline.net (hheartsequine @ optonline.net)

Check out Holly!   Helping Hearts picked her up at New Holland on 4/21 (she was due to be shipped to the meat-man prior to our intervention) and she's been 'quarantining' at Linda H's.  She's 4 years old, approx. 15 hh, I believe her to be a "National Show Horse" (1/2 Arabian - 1/2 Saddlebred) She is a fabulous mover and just happens to be absolutely gorgeous.  Under Linda and Steve's care she has filled out quite a bit already.

She'll be up for adoption once she's vetted and evaluated.

If anyone is interested, please get in touch with me.

She will be a mount for an intermediate+ rider.

She's has wonderful ground manners, but also has a lot of spirit and "go".

I just wanted to send this update to those that are interested.
We picked up the Arab gelding that was posted on Craigs list as Free...the first person that comes with a trailer can take him ! OMG the people had NO idea what they were getting into. They did not know about the killer market. Needless to say they got LOTS of emails from people that would not give any information about themselves. When I sent my email to them I explained how the brokers worked and they were horrified. After they saw our website and realized they could get a tax deductible donation and that their horse might be in danger if they just let him go with anybody, they worked very well with us.
Dizzy it a 14.2h arab gelding and his Granddaddy is Bask. This guy is 23 and doesnt look it at all. He is registered with the Arabian Jockey Club. He is tatooed and raced as a colt.
His owner was a 16 yo girl that had no idea her parents were giving her horse away. She was very broken hearted and cried on my shoulder and Sharons. We consoled her and eased her fears about his going to a bad place. She was brave enough to ride him for us for the last time and gave him hugs and cried when she finished. It was heartbreaking. This kind arab had not been ridden for 17 years before she got him a year ago. She retrained him and gave him all the time she had. Her parents saw that her time with him was dwindling as she got her drivers license and her school work piled up and they felt he needed a new home that would provide more time for him.
Attached are his pics. He has a solid walk, trot and canter. She gallops him in the field. Galloping him must be like riding the wind. He has huge arab nostrils that can suck up lots of air as he runs and his tail flags beautifully behind him. He galloped and galloped in the field when we went to get him (he knew something was up) the other horses just watched too lazy to join in. I have a soft spot in my heart for arabs and we respond well to each other. He finally stopped playing and stood and watched and waited as I walked up to him and gently took his halter to lead him to the barn. These animals are so sensitive and intelligent and the fire that is in their spirit captures my heart every time I see one and have the honor of spending time with them. This guy is fiery but settled and gentle.
Attached are pics with his owner....he will be given time to settle in and then will be available for adoption.

Horses Needing Homes!
We have a lot of horses needing homes right now. Please consider adopting one of our horses, give them a chance at a new life, and we will have room for another horse that is waiting to be saved right now.
These horses need a home, someone to love them and give them the life they deserve. Each one of these horses has a special story, most would be dead right now if we had not saved them. Please give them a chance, give them a home.

Sweet Draft X for Adoption

Hi all...
I wonder how many of you remember Bella. She is one of the HFH group from Pure Thoughts. Back in February she came up here as an adoption for a woman at the barn I board and teach at.
Her adopter feels that it isn't working out for her and with Jen's full support we're looking for a new family for her here in New England.
So about Bella. What can I say... not enough :-) She is a fabulously sensitive, very forward, rather "fluffy" big girl. I believe she is about 9/10 this year (Jen correct me if I am wrong) and 15.3h. Rides like she is taller and is built to carry some serious weight.
Personality: VERY in-tune to people. Once you've bonded with her she'll do anything for you. Ring work isn't her favorite but she gives it a good go. Will jump a cross rail, W/T and can canter but isn't in shape to hold it more than a couple times around the ring. Does great in the roundpen. Very smart. Loves the trails. Uncertain a bit on the busy street but a bush whacker out in the woods. Forward and a big mover. Mid to lower in the herd.
About the bonding...this is important to this horse. She bonded tightly to a 17 year old at the farm. Will do anything for her. Bella is a horse that needs to be needed and needs to be the center of her new person's horse world. Not a horse happy to sit and come out a couple times a week (well maybe happy with riding a couple of times but wants more attention than that).
So if you are a rider who can be clear but kind about the 'rules' and are looking for the type of horse that wants a quiet, gentle touch and even more love....if you want the type of horse that is going to be waiting for you to come visit this is the horse for you.
Right now Bella is stabled with Noir and Chi at Windkist in North Andover MA.
All adoption prospects will fall under the Pure Thoughts contract and guidelines for approval.
Happy to answer questions...email me off list for my cell #.
Best,
Dora

Available For Adoption

Photos - Enjoying the Spring weather:  April 15 -

Update-March 12 ~ Andersen has been consistently improving in his "under saddle refresher course."

He has previously been ridden under saddle, but has most recently been driven in harness.  He has smooth, lovely gaits and truly wishes to please.  He will be suitable for an advanced beginner/intermediate rider for pleasure, trail.

He will bloom with an owner who will give him lots of time and affection.  This horse has consistently proven to be an absolute Gentleman - - a real sweetheart, very affectionate, very loving, very trusting--caring for and working with him will be very rewarding for the right person. Please read down for his full story & photos so far!

Photos - Feb 3 - Andersen is a total gentleman, cross-ties, loves to be groomed.  He's filled out quite a bit already.

Arrived January  27, 2008:

Andersen is a 14  yr old. Saddlebred Gelding, about 16 hh, who was due to be shipped to a meat-buyer today.

Instead, he is now safe at Chestnut Ridge,

as Helping Hearts E. R's first official "pull".

He was very afraid, but was always quiet and gentle throughout the process of loading, shipping, etc.   He seems to be a real gentleman.

Andersen will be allowed to settle in; will be checked by our vet and our farrier; "Power-Pac'd"; gain some weight; start a training program and then will be available for adoption.

Jan. 29, 2008 ~ Andersen received his first set of shots, and has been definitely aged as 14 yrs.  He is settling in very well and is proving to have a lovely personality and temperament.   He's been relaxing in our quarantine paddock.   He is quite sound and has easy, comfortable gaits - - he's 3 gaited.

Jan 31, 2008 ~ Examined by our farrier, Andersen had his road-shoes pulled today and will begin receiving corrective trims next week to resolve uneven angles and flares.  He was very well-behaved for John.  He has great manners!

Feb. 26, '08 ~  Andersen had his teeth floated today, Butch Dase confirmed his age at about 14/15 yrs.   Butch was surprised at how well-behaved Andersen was.  When told he was working on a Saddlebred, he was anticipating some crazed behavior, but this boy is ALL GENTLEMAN.

We are taking his under saddle evaluation  slowly.   While he has been broke to ride, he's been a bit tentative and worried, but has never put a foot wrong.  We are allowing Andersen to realize that nothing scarey or harmful is going to occur and every ride, he relaxes quicker and quicker.   He is proving to be a real sweetheart, very affectionate, very loving, very trusting.

This guy needs a special home.  He's now turned out with our group of Friesian geldings, and he moved into the bunch without a hitch.  He was accepted immediately without any squealing, posturing or aggression on anyone's part.  Even the horses know he's a good guy!!

Please consider adding Andersen to your family!

Anderson is available for adoption for a $1900 adoption fee; completion of an adoption application and a final Adoption Contract.   A Two-week Trial Period can be arranged at Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Center.

Sahara and Sheik are finally available for adoption!

Sahara is a five yr old mare that was rescued from the Filley Feedlot rescue last year.  She had a severe hoof injury that is almost 100% healed and she will need more weight put on.  It is unknown at this time if she is ridable.  She does have some trust issues, but seems to be a very sweet mare!

The first picture is Sahara at week 4 (She arrived at Phoenix Rising on 11 Aug 2007) at Phoenix Rising.  The second picture was taken 26 Nov 2007.  This was taken while she was still nursing her baby, Miss Swan.

Sheik is approximately 20 years old and was also rescued during the Filley Feedlot Rescue.  He is shy around people, but is learning to trust.  He needs a sweet family who will love him for the remainder of his days.  He is still recovering from the neglect that he faced (he may also be blind in the left eye.) and will need more weight put on, but he is so much better and such a handsome guy.  He adores Sahara and if a home could be found together, that would be wonderful…but it is not necessary.  The pictures on the website should be updated soon!

Doesn't he look like a very distinguished old gentleman?
