| These horses are in Petersburg, Nebraska. They
belong to my landlord and he is wanting to find good homes for
them. I will be assisting him with placing these horses, so references
will be required.
These mares have very
little handling. I will be working on halter training and getting
them used to being handled until they find homes.
The photos of the mares are not the greatest...my camera (which is
not the greatest anyway!) ran out of batteries as I was taking
pictures. If you need more pictures of the mares, please let me
know and I will try to get better ones for you (I may do it anyway!).
Aimee:
Aimee is a smaller mare, roughly 13.2 - 14.0 hands tall. She is
a 6 yr old grulla mare with roaning throughout her body. She is
very curious and friendly, but a bit nervous when you touch her
body. She is gradually allowing more contact and is very close to
allowing me to halter her. She will most likely be a good ladies
horse and with patient and hard work has the possibility of being a good
child's horse. She is the lowest mare of the group of mares and is
good with other horses. She is also the one that follows me around
the most in the pasture. When taking pictures (12 Mar 2008) I
noticed that Aimee has injured her front hoof. She is walking with
a slight limp, but seems better today (16 Mar). Should recover
sound.
Update 4 Apr: Today Aimee let me brush her all over. She
really enjoyed it and even when the larger mares came up, she trusted me
to keep them away and kept enjoying being brushed. She is still a
bit nervous about the halter, but will allow me to rub it on her cheek
and will sniff it completely.
Update 17 Apr: Aimee is really trying when it comes to
haltering. She allowed me to put the noseband on her nose and
start to move it up her face. She got nervous when I went to put
the strap behind her ears to buckle it, so we slowed down and I just
rubbed her and let her know it was okay. She calmed down quickly,
but we will keep doing that for a few days. She makes wonderful
progress when the other horses aren't around. Please remember that
I don't have a separate space to put her in while we work. We have
to do it in the pasture right now where the other horses can come
up and pester her. Since she is the lowest one in the pecking
order, they typically send her running.

Rose:
Rose is a smaller bay roan mare. She is
approximately 14.0 - 14.2 hands and 5 yrs old. She has come the
farthest of the three mares since I have been working with her. She
has a very sweet attitude and loves attention. She enjoys being
brushed and will push the other mares out of the way if she sees the brush
in your hand. She is a little shy of her left ear, but is allowing
me to touch her there now. She has a very petite head and a soft
eye. She has the potential to be a nice ladies mare or with work a
nice child's horse. She is one of the top mares currently in the
field, but she is tolerant of other horses...she won't attack for no
reason and generally gets along with all the other horses.
Update 4 Apr: Rose is doing wonderful. She
allows me to put the halter on her with no fear. I am still doing it
slow so that she stays relaxed. I can walk up to her anywhere in the
field and she will allow herself to be haltered. Once haltered she
is a bit unsure of what you want her to do. She will take very
hesitant steps forward when asked. She loved being brushed this
morning and followed me as I moved from horse to horse in case I decided
to brush her again.
Update 17 Apr: Rose haltered very nicely
yesterday. Sometimes she still starts just a bit when you first
begin to put it on, but she settles down quickly. She is starting to
lead better. A few clucks is all it takes to get her started.
She is shedding off just beautifully! As more of her winter coat
comes off, you can see more of the roan hairs. She has a much higher
concentration of white hairs on her rump and right under her neck.
There is a specific name for roans with this coloring and I will have to
look it up.

Bella:
This mare is bay roan
in color, very friendly (likes people...especially those who want to brush
and pet on her), is halter broke (although I have never haltered her), and
had a beautiful bay colt last year (she is open this year.) I
believe that she is registered. I am not for sure how old she
is...waiting for confirmation from my landlord.
$400 obo.
Update
8 Apr: I brought the halter out with me when I was brushing her
today. When I went to put it on, she did okay until I moved to put
the headband across. She pulled back and took a few steps away, then
came immediately back. She was still nervous about the halter.
I believe this is mostly due to the fact that she has not been haltered or
handled much in the past few years.
Update
17 Apr: Bella is still a bit shy about being haltered. She
does better if you will put the lead rope around her neck first.
Once she knows that she is caught, she stands perfectly still and allows
herself to be haltered. She leads wonderfully once haltered and will
go anywhere you want her to. She is such a sweet mare, who lives for
all the love and attention you can give her.
The first picture was taken August 2007, when we first
moved in. The second was taken in October.
I took these pictures today (4 Apr). Please be aware
that she was very muddy. I ran a brush over her and got some of the
mud off, but really she needs a bath to show her off
completely.

picture is so close. She was following me and wouldn't let me get in
front of her far enough to get a good front picture.
