What is a nurse mare foal? A nurse mare foal is a foal who is pulled from it's mother so that she can nurse a foal of a "better' mare. (The "better" mare is often a show or race horse that the owner wants to get back to showing as soon after delivery as possible.) These foals sometimes only get 24 hours with their mothers before being pulled away and cast aside. Sometimes these foals will get up to a week with their mother before being pulled. There are groups throughout the country who take in these poor unfortunately man orphaned foals and give them a chance at life.

PURE THOUGHTS FOAL TEAMS 2008

Ok everyone... season is starting and we need to be here for the nursemare
foals. We have the Foal Teams that are ready for more members and also we will
be doing ongoing fundraising for them. Currently we have two items.
Windchimes made by our dear and talented Donna Skinner and a bracelet that will be
exclusively for foal fundraising.

Judy and Avonda are making baskets to help raise money for their teams and
we will have more raffle items soon. Spread the word, join a team, buy an item
or donate... whatever you can do let's make it a good year for the little
ones!!! Let's show them that they are indeed LOVED AND WANTED!!!!

The Pure Thoughts Foal Teams were formed to save precious nursemare foals
that would otherwise be killed or sold at auction while only days old. We
partner with the Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio:

Pure Thoughts helped save over 60 nursemare foals in 2007!

The goal of the foal teams is to sponsor nursemare foals that LCC rescues
from nursemare farms in Kentucky. The cost to sponsor each foal is $500. The
needs for these very young orphan foals is high. They are given milk replacer
several times daily, and will also have greater health and nutritional needs.
You can read about the expenses from last year's foal rescue mission on the
Foal Team page. Our goal is to keep the adoption price of the foals reasonable
to ensure that these little ones get into their forever homes and have a
Momma!!

When the foal teams have raised enough funds to sponsor several foals, Pure
Thoughts will pick up the foals at LCC in Ohio. The cost of the shipping is
already included in the funds raised. The foal teams get to choose their
foal(s) in the order of when their teams raised enough funds for a full
sponsorship.

The team members will also get to name these foals and they will receive
updates on them after they arrive in Florida! The babies sponsored by the foal
teams will first be brought to Pure Thoughts in South Carolina (shorter trip).
After they are stabilized, they will be brought to Pure Thoughts rescue in
Florida.

When a foal team is established, that team will have their own website page
for the pictures of their foals. There will be one paypal donation link for
this year's program, and we will make sure your team receives credit for your

This program was created to help as many nursemare foals as possible during
each "foal season." The foal team members can make a donation of any amount
at anytime. Only the team's totals will be shared by the team captains, so
the team members can see their progress towards sponsorship of their foals.

Some people say, why do you bother...it is such a loss!!! These babies did
not ask for this. They were born to be loved by their Momma as all babies
are...they did not ask to be taken from their Mommas at only a few hours or days
old. It is not the fault of these poor, unwanted babies that they are in this
predicament, it is the fault of the human race. So, as members of the human
race, we should try and "right" some of the "wrongs" made by others.

The 2008 foaling season began a few weeks ago...
These babies really need our help to have a chance!
